What are your fitness goals?  In trying to prescribe a strength training program for you, we need to figure out exactly what it is you are trying to accomplish.  Choose what closest fits what you want to achieve.

OVERALL GENERAL FITNESS PROGRAM EXPLANATION

This 12-week routine is for those interested in making improvements in muscle strength and tone.  It is not designed to bulk you up, although you may find that you will experience some increase in muscle mass with this program especially if you have never done any strength training before.   It is intended for people wanting to increase their muscular endurance and strength.  This is ideal for boxers who are already in the weight class of their choosing.  It will supplement regular boxing workouts and result in increased power and stamina in the ring.

BODYBUILDING PROGRAM EXPLANATION

This 12 week routine is for those interested in making improvements in muscle strength, size, and tone.  It is designed for those wishing to make improvements in muscle size and definition.  It does not necessarily focus on endurance (although it is a likely side effect to some degree).  Anyone wanting to get big or completely shredded should devote 12 weeks to this program.  In terms of boxing, programs in this category will allow boxers to reach different weight classes if so desired at which point they can concentrate on injecting some muscular endurance and stamina into their new pretty muscles.

STRENGTH AND POWER PROGRAM EXPLANATION

This 12 week routine is for those interested in making improvements in muscle size and strength.  It is designed for those wishing to both increase the amount of muscle on their bodies and the power they can derive for them.  All boxers can benefit from the increased power and strength this program will provide and combined with some endurance training and regular boxing specific workouts, will round out a boxer's conditioning nicely.

I have always adhered to two principles. The first one is to train hard and get in the best possible physical condition. The second is to forget all about the other fellow until you face him in the ring and the bell sounds for the fight.
