Septiplasty Complete

Well, it's been done.  The septiplasty is complete.  Now it is time to heal.

Yesterday I went in for day surgery and being the first time I've had surgery at all, it was quite the experience.  For the septiplasty, I was required to undergo a general anaesthetic.  The doc put me under and then they usually inject some sort of paralyis medication so they can put in the breathing tube.  They did that, and low and behold, they found out I do not contain some enzyme needed to break down that medecine.  So, where I should have been paralysed for about 15 min turned into something like 3 hours.

Now, I have to get a medic alert bracelet (assuming the blood test comes back positive) so no one gives me that medication again.  The official doc word is pseudocholinesterase deficiency.

I tell you, when they knock you out, it is quick.  I remember my head getting a little dizzy and then boom, it was 5 hours later and I'm trying to get the breathing tube out of my throat.  I guess my septiplasty wasn't exactly routine, but oh well, apparently all is good now.

Concerning my actual nose, it has been bleeding continuously since the surgery - not gushing, but enough to be annoying and I'm not supposed to blow it, which is even more aggravating (just a second, I'm about to drip - there that's better).  It is slightly swollen, but there really isn't a whole lot of pain.  If it does get bad, I've got a bottle of Tylenol 3 here.  Right now, I don't really notice a lot of difference with the breathing, mostly because my nose is full of blood, so I can't tell you if it's worth it or not yet.  Time will tell.

The next couple of days will be spent sitting around with my head back.  A couple weeks off the hard exercise and then I can start that back up again.  6 more weeks and I should be sparring again.  Until then, I guess I'll be taking it easy on the boxing.

Must go lay down.  Now is everyone's chance to get one up on me.  You can train harder than ever while I'm out of commission.  I feel all my opponents closing the gap.  Damn.

I want to keep fighting because it is the only thing that keeps me out of the hamburger joints. If I don't fight, I'll eat this planet.
