Uppercut Jab
Mon, 2005-06-27 11:39
I was browsing some sites yesterday, and one of them suggested that i should learn how to use a different version of the jab. In this version my left hand goes a full 180degrees so the at the end my palm is facing up. It said that it is a faster version of the uppercut.
I've never heard of this before, so i was wondering if this is of any use, or if i should just look past it?
Thank You

Hi, I've never heard of it, but that doesn't mean it can't be true. I don't see the logic in it. The jab is delivered at a distance and the uppercut is used up close or when you can close the distance quick. To combine the two seems like trying to combine two opposing punches and I don't see the advantage other than delivering something different to your opponent so he can't guess what you're throwing.
I'd like to know which site was telling you this, so I can investigate further. Please post the link or private message me with it. Thanks.
i never heard of the uppercut jab either
From what I've seen of people doing it, it's just a bad technique sparring tap. Guys just throw their hand out then bring it back up for a tap on the chin. Not very powerful but makes contact. If there was a way to throw this with power though it would be an effective weapon.
I could see how this might be used to get the jab in easier if the opponent has a particularly high gaurd
