Not Bad at all...

Hey guys, pretty good effort. Way to go in actually controlling the match rather than letting it turn into a slugfest like other backyard boxing matches. I take it it was agreed upon nobody would aim for the head...and you were scoring by hitting the chest area? Pretty clear you were both holding back and actually trying to box rather than just kill each other. Seems to me Chris was holding back a little more than Berto and I'd guess Chris has a little more experience?

With those assumptions - here are my comments:

Round 1

Berto - might want to tighten up and not flinch so much to deflect an incoming punch. Everytime you do, you're wide open. You're also squared off too much to your opponent, lead more with your lead foot turning your body off to 45 degrees, and keep your hands up. Had you guys actually been targeting the head, yours was wide open the majority of the fight. Some nice counterpunching though, you would throw back without hesitation after receiving a punch - that's good. You, like Chris, tended to switch stances at times. His looks intentional, yours doesn't. Suggest staying with one or the other.

Chris - I see you switch from orthodox to southpaw at will. If it's intentional - good, if not, might want to pick one and go with it. Much tighter than Berto, good reach and height advantage, and you rock back to avoid punches which you can do because of your reach advantage. When you do rock back, careful not to lean over - rock straight back and then come back with a counterpunch.

Round 1 winner - Chris

Round 2

Berto - You tightened up a bit - that's good, but still flinching a lot and the two handed blocks leave you completely exposed. Nice right to the head. You're pressuring more than Chris is. Considering the height/reach advantage, you're getting inside fairly easily and without too much damage. (guaranteed it would be different if you guys were doing head shots).

Chris - nice and busy, lots of movement, good, you're in punching and then moving, good job.

Have to say Berto landed some good shots and was definitely the agressor in that round. Shot to the head wins it for me.

Round 2 winner - Berto

Round 3 - tell your cameraman he sucks - at least for the first bit - :)

Berto - good job going hard at the end of the rounds...not just round 3. Other than that, nothing much more to add.

Chris - seems to me you were playing with him a bit, if not, commit to your punches - just hanging them out there isn't good. But I think you know that.

Round 3 and overall - Chris.

Good job guys. Keep em coming.
