Practical question
It's great that this is up and running. I don't think the judges' voting is working 100% because I voted for "testery" as the winner, but it didn't show up in the points tally. It's probably just a minor bug.
Also, how will challenges work here? Will we have an area on the forums for those? How do we find guys in our area who are members of the site and will be suitable opponents? Should I just post on this thread saying something like, "I'm Steve, in Chicago, IL at 190 lb. Looking for bouts for the How to Box Worldwide Fight Club"?
Thanks!
Yep, that's a problem
Yep, that's a bug I must squash. Thanks for letting me know, just thought everyone was voting for the same person.
I'm working on a system for finding the fights. In the meantime, the forums would be a good place to post - fights category. Or, better yet, organize something offline - form a club. That's what I'm doing here - currently have 14 pers signed up and classes begin next Thursday. Eventually, we will hold interclub matches that will be uploaded for judging.
Bug Killer
Okay, I think I fixed the judging bug. If you all wouldn't mean judging again - I've reset it so please try it out. Thanks.
Admin I have good news
I am opening a club in my area its called street boxing and we are recruiting people from our middle school and high school we will start the club as soon as i get my new camera i will send some of the videos when i get and a new camera and i buy two more helmets want 2 see the website so far go to myspace.com/street_boxing
p.s. we had an old club before to but it was about stunts wit my old friends this club is gonna b way better
What about clubs... ?
Sounds neat! Lets say our club wanted to have sparring 'matches' periodically. Would it be possible to set up multiple fighters under 1 user rather than require each member to sign up here and get a paypal account. Some of our members don't have internet access,.. and it would be simpler to have 1 person post several fights at once. I don't know how much 'revenue' our fights would develop, but I'm guessing the guys would be ok to pool it towards buying new gear for the club, such as a new double ended speed bag or something.
Clubs are perfect
Clubs are actually ideal for this as you generally have the equipment, know how and knowledgeable people who can act as refs and ensure the safety of the participants. However, there are a couple of issues with your questions. I'm open to suggestions for solutions if you have them:
1. Multiple fighters under 1 user - In order for the system to track and rank the fighters, each one needs an account on How to Box - don't really see a way around that. However, while every fighter needs an account in order to be ranked, one person from the club can post all the videos. When you submit a video, it asks who is in the red corner and who is in the blue corner. You select the names from a list of accounts on the site and it doesn't have to be your fight. You can submit a fight for any two fighters as long as they have accounts. Therefore, really, the club can create accounts for all persons in their club (just need an email address for each person - hotmail, gmail, yahoo, etc...) and then the club can post fights for any members of their club (or outside their club). So, in a round a bout way, yes 1 person can post all the fights.
2. Only want to use 1 Paypal account and pool the money - that is definitely doable. You can make multiple "donations" with the same paypal account. People do not need to be members of the site to "buy a ticket" using Paypal. They don't necessarily even need a Paypal account as they can use any credit card via the button on the fight page.
3. Pool the revenue and buy gear -- that is an excellent use for it - whatever to promote your club and the sport.
My own club is planning on doing this in a few months once things get going.
