I had my first fight this past Tuesday night. Upon first impression, my opponent and I seemed to be matched up fairly even. He, however, happened to be a southpaw. I have sparred with a lefty before, so I wasn't too worried, but my nonchalance turned to concern quickly in the first round. He was very aggressive, and he landed a ton of lefts to my face and head in the first thirty seconds. Every place I was accustomed to putting my head for a right hander seemed to walk me right into a strong left. I had never been hit so much in such a small amount of time. I rallied late in the first round to land a few punches, which seemed to ward off his aggressiveness quite a bit.
I regained some composure during the rest period between the first and second round, and came out firing straight rights and overhand rights that found their home on his nose and chin. I was so tentative to throw my left, because he was able to parry them and pop me one with a left of his own. The fight kinda looked silly on my part because it seemed as if my left arm was incapacitated in a physical way. I just kept throwing as many rights in a row as I could until he would finally move his head, then take a short break to realign myself and begin again. I did land a few jabs and a left hook or two in the meantime, but it was mostly rights.
He tired out in the middle of the second round and began to clinch up with me at every opportunity. I was able to pull away and land a nice sharp uppercut which dazed him a little bit, then he clinched up with me again and left my right hand loose. I threw a quick right hook that landed right on his chin, expelling his mouthpiece and a big string of slobber. He buckled and fell to the floor for about a 20 count.
So I won the fight by KO, but I felt very unsatisfied with my performance nonetheless. There were about 600 people there, and they seemed impressed, but I feel like I was so close to losing in the first round that, even though I pulled it out, I have been beating myself up over the way he pummeled me early on. I look at the video, and say to myself, "why didn't you do this, or why didn't you do that", but my common boxing sense seemed to elude me at the time of the fight. I really hope that part gets better.

PS...I have uploaded the fight to youtube, but the quality is so poor that its hard to even see whats happening. The original dvd recording was very good, but the uploaded file is pretty crappy. I don't know what I did wrong with that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o30qgBI0dmU -
