Hey i just started boxing for fitness a few months ago after my basketball season had finished, but now i have started to like it and so i started sparring. Anyways i was sparring one guy and noticed how quick his jab was and wondered what ways there were of improving the speed of my own? From searching on google people they seem to contradict, like some say wear heavier gloves while shadow boxing, while others strictly deny this works. So what are the best ways to improve your jab? thanks

Practice
It's just practice, and a whole lot of it. Work on throwing your hip into it for a little extra zip, but it's really just a function of conditioning. Keep loose and it speeds up. Shadowboxing with weights helps you condition your shoulders/arms. As your muscles get stronger, you will be able to contract faster which will help the speed, but the biggest improvement simply comes with throwing jabs, repeatedly - over and over and over again.

Thanks
Thanks for that, i guessed it was just going to be practise, but you never know if you don't ask.

Punching
How do you stay loose to throw the most effective punch? Im 5'6 135 and n my stance my shoulder's r sometimes n the air and tense but when i drop them it doesnt feel like my punch will be effective. I was once told that when u throw a punch right you should feel it, What should i do to?

I have always adhered to two principles. The first one is to train hard and get in the best possible physical condition. The second is to forget all about the other fellow until you face him in the ring and the bell sounds for the fight.
