hi, i want to bob and weave effectviely, i can do it at the moment but am not fast enough which is a first in my life as i used to pick things up quite quick but this is taking ages, i do the rope drill, any other drills u recommed i can do by myself
and my footwork, i am orthodox and my toes are on the ball of the foot. but people say when u move u should have both feet planted on the ground. which one is correct as when u punch u have to pivot
thanks

Hey Ash -
The rope exercise is great to learn how to use upper body movement. A lot of what boxing comes down to is muscle memory. Repeat the movement enough times, and it becomes second nature. The other half of this is developing your timing and reflexes. Bobbing and weaving is only effective when you do it at the right time (i.e. you don't want to bob/weave yourself right into a punch). So repetition is the key. Integrate a lot of upper body movement into your shadow-boxing routine.
You could try defense drills. Have a partner stand and throw quick/light jabs at you, while you bob/weave and in general try to slip his shots. It helps a lot for the developement of the reflexes you need to bob and weave effectively.
Balls of your feet. Always. Unless you're planting to throw a hard shot, and even then one of your feet should probably be on the ball. Being on the balls of your feet makes you more mobile, and better braced to take a punch.
Hope that helps! Good luck!
