Well...I cant believe it is happening but it is on july 22nd. Any predictions? Im thinking Gatti by TKO in the later rounds. Baldomir is just too slow. God knows how he managed to stun Zab Judah.

it wasnt so much gatti
it wasnt so much gatti being dissapointing, he was the same old gatti wanting to stand and trade, it was just that baldomir beat him in that game. my hat goes off to him. i was wrong. i wanna see how he handles somebody who will move tho. because he did begin to have problems when gatti started really boxing with him before he got knocked out.

ran out of gas
To me it looked like Baldomir ran out of gas right about the time Gatti was forced to box with one hand, which in turn forced Gatti to move around the ring a lot better than he was. One could definitely tell the old Gatti was still there especially when they started exchanging blows. Even though McGirt had him bridaled working the whole boxer side of things, his old slugger self showed through on a few occasions. He probably should have moved and not stood and fought in the ninth, but then I wouldn't have expected anything less from Gatti. Would have been interesting if he could have held on for 10 more seconds to regain himself for round 10. Baldomir started off really well though. However, his main punch was the right which Gatti obviously had trouble with. If that had been denied, I don't think things would have gone the way they did.

Retirement?

Everyone seems to be saying that Gatti should hang up the gloves given what happened against Baldomir. I don't think that's true at all. People seem to think that "if Gatti can't beat a guy like Baldomir, then he shouldn't be fighting anymore." But I think that a lot of people underestimated Baldomir (me included). The guy hasn't lost a fight in nine years, he's been a title holder for seven, and he beat Zab Judah (regardless of how seriously Judah took the fight). This is not to mention that Baldomir walks around at 187pnds!!! He trains down to meet welterweigth, but 187!!! He's a monster, and its no surprise that Gatti couldn't go toe to toe with him. And considering the fact that he was fighting a guy who could fight comforably between middleweight and light heavy, I think Gatto held his own and looked pretty sharp.

What happened to Gatti, is the same thing that almost happened to Hatton. Hatton moves up to welterweight and gets in the ring with Luis Collazo (a natural welterweight) a guy not known for his punch, and almost gets knocked out. Gatti just made a bad call by moving up in weight, he's best suited at 140 pounds, where he's the bigger man with the heavier hands. Especially now that everyone's falling over themselves abandoning the junior welterweight division. Maybe not against a guy like Cotto (another middleweight trying to pass for a hundred-and-forty-pounder), but look at the 140 division http://www.boxrec.com/ratings.php?nationality=&sex=M&division=Light+Welterweight&status=A&SUBMIT=Go and tell me that Gatti couldn't take out most of those guys.

But what's everyone else think? Should he retire?

And yes, it was the right hand that shook up Zab.

baldomir too tough for Gatti
It was disappointing, but Baldomir was simply too tough for Gatti's punches. In round 2 or 3, he actually smiled and kinda laughed at Gatti after he threw a combo. Gatti got pissed and might have punched himself out a little, missing a lot, with the punches he actually landed not even fazing Baldomir.

I wouldn't say that
I wouldn't say the punches weren't even phasing Baldomir -- at some point, I believe around round 3? Baldomir very distinctly stopped pressuring Gatti like he did early on. It was an obvious change in behaviour and either Baldomir got tired or the punches Gatti did land were more effective than one might think.

gatti

I think Gatti landed some of the hardest punches I've seen him throw in a while. He hit Baldomir harder than he ever hit Damgard or even Leija.  Baldomir just took it well. At the post-fight Baldomir admitted that he tired around the 3rd and 4th rounds.

So, should Gatti retire? Anybody?
