Alright, this guy is my current favorite fighter/role-model right now. Hopefully you've heard of him. If you haven't: He's got one of the worst records in boxing (34-27-6) but he's fought everybody, he's fought frequently, and often on short-notice. He's like a throw back to boxing fifty/sixty years ago, when boxers were fighters by trade, took fights on practically no notice, and didn't mind fighting every other week. Look him up sometime, and just see who he's fought, it's like a who's who at 135 pounds. One thing about him, though, if you're looking for a lesson on the fundamentals of boxing, Augustus is not what you're looking for. His style is completely unorthadox. While he has very good boxing skills, the closest thing that I could descibe his style as is "drunken boxing". If you've ever seen Jackie Chan's "Drunken Master", then you know what I'm talking about. It can be incredible to watch. Very cool fighter. Not to say he doesn't have faults, he does shut down on offense sometimes, and he likes to clown a lot, but really...you can tell when he's in the zone, and it's pretty unbeleivable to see. Some of the best out there duck this guy, cause he's so crazy to fight. Floyd Mayweather said that Augustus was the toughest opponent he ever faced, and the one who gave him the most problems. So...

Well anyways, I wanted to give everyone a head's up. He's been picked as a last minute sub for a fight against Kid Diamond. It should be a great fight. And if Augustus wins it'll probably be enough to propell him into title contention. Which is awesome. So yeah, it's on the Versus network (formerly OLN "Outdoor Living Network") tomorrow night (01/11) at 9PM Eastern Time. Like I say, should be a great fight. And if you've never seen Augustus fight, you should definitely check it out.

Doh!

That was ugly. Damn. Probably the end of a career. Don't even know what to say. Depressing? I think thats a good word for it.

Re: Emanuel Augustus
Didn't go well for Augustus at all, but at least he lasted all 10 rounds. Diamond won by unanimous decision. I think the scoring was something like 100-89, 101-90, 101-90.

Re: Emanuel Augustus
Yeah. It was almost a shut out. I've seen Augustus get into fights that he lost because he just couldn't get his rhythm going, but this was painful to watch. He took a lot of good shots from Micky Ward (who I think was a great puncher), but Kid Diamond was landing hard, flush shots all night long. It was one of those fights where you feel that twist in your gut, and you start to worry about the safety/health of the guy taking the beating. It was bad. Maybe enough to retire him. The saddest part (okay maybe not the saddest part), is that Kid Diamond is such a one dimensional fighter, this should have been an easy fight for Augustus. Now, I'm unsure of who there is out there that he could beat, or even make the argument that he deserves a shot at. Dissapointing.

I have always adhered to two principles. The first one is to train hard and get in the best possible physical condition. The second is to forget all about the other fellow until you face him in the ring and the bell sounds for the fight.
