Boxing on rest days?
Hey, whats up guys? I have a quick question concerning my workout routiine. I am currently on a full body routine that i do every other day leaving a day of rest in between each session. I have decided to add my bag work inro this routine (heavy bag and speed bag) and also a little cardio, not much though because i am trying to gain weight. I am only 135 and am trying to get up to 145-150. So my question is, should i add the bag work and cardio into my workout days or into my rest days? I would rather do it on my rest days because i am pretty tired after my workout, but i know my muscles need a rest between workouts and i didnt know if doing bag training on rest days would be too much? My bag training would be light at first, probly 3x 3min rounds on the heavy and the same on the speed bag. And 3x 75 reps with the jumprope for cardio. Any help would be appreciated, im also open to any suggestions on how to change my routine around. Thanks Guys, BILL

Shouldn't Hurt

billa - Light boxing training in between the full body workouts won't hurt. But, if you're ultimate goal is to put on 10-15lbs of muscle it will hinder that. It may happen eventually but any added cardio is going to prolong the process. Now if you don't have a timeline for gaining the extra muscle, then I'd definitely recommend incorporating the boxing. It will both build muscle and works out your insides - heart etc... which is obviously important. It just may take a while longer to reach your goal weight.

The other thing to think of is what you are eating. You have to eat enough calories in a day to sustain the training you are doing and put on weight. Check the boxing nutrition portion of the site to ensure you aren't cutting yourself short. If you truly want to just put on the mass, switch to a split routine, stop all cardio, rest a lot, and start eating like a horse. (right foods of course).
