Me and a couple of my friends were talking about a school boxing team, but knew it would never happen and none of us have jobs or money (we're 15) and i was wondering if we just got mouth guards, could we be able to box in someone's basement or backyard, and still get better at boxing without any formal training? or will someone just get hurt?

Hey, Tait!

No guarantees, but chances are someone will just get hurt. With little to no money, it could be very hard to get into a gym. With that in mind, do any of your parents know anything about boxing. I was thinking so long as you had someone even partly competant watching over you (even if not as a coach, kind of like a substitute referee) who could break things up, stop sparring sessions, etc... They could also point out ways that you could improve. If you had at least that, then you might be able to do this and improve.

Also, you'd all be well served to invest in a couple of helmets (they really are a necessity) and some 14-16oz gloves, as well, as buying mouthpieces. You just want to improve your skills, you don't want to kill each other.

Really, though, find someone who knows something about boxing, and see if they'll overlook your sparring sessions. That;s what I would suggest.

Good luck! And be safe!!!

A friend/coworker of mine
A friend/coworker of mine and I decided we'd have a little boxing match of our own. Mouthguards and 14oz gloves, that's all we had. Did it after work one night before going to a little weekly videogame get-together we have, while our coworkers watched. I got a busted lip and an extremely bloodied nose so believe me when I say that there is definitely the capacity to get messed up...

backyard
i would not suggest boxing in your backyard with only mouthgaurds and gloves. if you attempt to (evan though i would aviod doing it) there should be some one responsible waching oer incase anything bad happens.yeah head gaurd/helmets are vital esspecially if your sparring unsupiviosed at a gym.

i have backyard boxed more than a few times it was fun but it is good to have someone experienced to watch over while you are doing it cause i have injured my shoulder and busted my nose doing it and had freinds get KO'd i would also suggest getting someheadgear if you are going to.
